Conceptual Definition #

Agile Operation Excellence (AOE) within the Scrum Enterprise Model (SEM) refers to a dedicated organizational capability that leads agile transformations. Similar in function to the Lean-Agile Center of Excellence (LACE) in the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe), AOE promotes standardized agile practices, continuous improvement, and strategic alignment across the enterprise.

Purpose #

The primary purpose of Agile Operation Excellence is to:

  • Lead Agile Transformation: Accelerate and guide the organization’s transition to agile practices.
  • Promote Standardization: Ensure consistent adoption of agile principles and practices.
  • Facilitate Continuous Improvement: Regularly evaluate agile maturity and enhance capabilities through targeted improvements.
  • Build Agile Culture: Foster a supportive environment promoting collaboration, adaptability, and experimentation.

Key Roles and Responsibilities #

  • AOE Leader:
    • Sets the vision and strategic direction for agile transformation.
    • Facilitates alignment of agile initiatives with organizational goals.
    • Advocates agile culture and change management at the executive level.
  • Agile Coaches:
    • Provide hands-on coaching, training, and mentoring to teams and leaders.
    • Support teams in resolving impediments and continuously improving agile practices.
    • Measure and track agile maturity to inform improvement actions.
  • Transformation Agents:
    • Serve as agile champions within their business units.
    • Promote agile practices locally and collect feedback for continuous refinement.

  • Conduct training sessions, workshops, and coaching tailored for various organizational levels.
  • Disseminate and embed standardized agile practices and methodologies.

  • Facilitate the formation and operation of Communities of Practice.
  • Support knowledge exchange, skill development, and collective innovation activities.
